Sleepnumber Replacement

We have a Sleepnumber bed for our stationary home, but the unit that came with the Grizz just wasn't up to snuff.

The main problem was one side didn't want to adjust at all, while the other side deflated the bed, no matter how you set the remote.  This makes for some poor sleeping.  So we decided to remove the sleep number and install a 10" memory foam mattress.

Removal of the old mattress is pretty simple.  Just unhook the air hoses by operating the pinch clips at the top of the mattress, and remove.  Protip #1: take a break and lay on each side of the mattress until the air is gone from the mattress.  This makes it easy to fold the mattress for removal from the coach.

After futzing around to find the pump unit for the Sleepnumber (It's not under the bed!), I consulted the chassis and house diagrams.  The diagrams showed there was an outlet which the bed pump plugged in to, but it wasn't visible while standing on that side of the bed.  Protip #2: remove the drawer from the night table, and shine back there with a flashlight.  There is a plug that will be just visible, as well as the pump itself (white box).  Unplug that plug, and you should be golden.

Installation of the new mattress is pretty straightforward.  Simple bring it in, lay it on the empty bed, and remove the plastic.  It'll take a bit for a memory foam mattress to expand fully, but it does. Protip #3: don't take the plastic off the new mattress outside, and attempt to bring it in.  Bring it to the bed first, then remove the plastic.  If you take it off outside, it'll be a pain to get it inside, where it needs to be.

Update 3/18/2023:

We pulled the foam out.  It sucked.  Ended up with a Brooklyn Bedding mattress, and the difference is night and day from both the foam and the Sleepnumber.  Highly recommend.
